View of 53 Washington Square South, 2006
53 Washington Square South, John Sloan's apartment and studio from 1927 to 1935. The large square window (men are on the balcony in front of it) provided the artist with an excellent view of Washington Square Park. Sloan was forced to relocate when his building was purchased by New York University. Sloan's studio remains in use as a classroom, though the university replaced the neighboring building with a modern structure.
